The slowest part decides: a 10 Gbit network does not help when the source is a single hard disk at 120 MB/s. Many small files are far slower than a few large ones, often by a factor of ten, because each file costs a round trip. Upload is usually much slower than download on DSL and cable. Sizes are decimal (1 GB = 1,000 MB).
